Tailored Learning Pathways

Underpinning our mainstream programme we provide tailored learning pathways that respond to the individual needs of each student, ensuring continuity, strong foundations and confident progression at every stage.

At HIS, we recognise that students join from a wide range of systems with different curricula, learning speeds and academic calendars, including January to December and August to June or July. Our approach is designed to ensure every student transitions smoothly into our school. Through accelerated learning and personalised support, we bridge gaps in knowledge, concepts and skills so that students can quickly build confidence and keep pace with their peers.

Pre-school to Year 2

We support students from Pre school through to UK Year 2 and beyond, ensuring strong foundations from the earliest stages of learning. Our focus is on building essential skills in literacy and numeracy while developing confidence and independence in learning.

Specialised phonics and Mathematics support is delivered by experienced staff and is provided at no extra cost to parents. This targeted support enables students to strengthen core skills and access the curriculum with confidence.

Transition to Secondary School

HIS English Stream Years 4 to 6

As students progress, our mainstream pathway continues to support their development through the transition to Secondary School. Within the HIS English Stream, students aged 9 to 11 are guided through a structured bridging approach across Years 4 to 6. This prepares them for the move to Secondary School by developing academic skills, independence and confidence and includes help with their applications to good secondary school of your choice.

The bridging programme develops the knowledge, skills and mindset students need to succeed in Secondary School. It focuses on strong foundations in learning, increasing independence and ensuring students feel confident about the next stage of their education. As students move from Year 4 to Year 6, they become increasingly independent learners, progressing from understanding and remembering information to explaining ideas and thinking more deeply, and from teacher guided learning to taking greater responsibility for their own work.

Particular attention is given to English and Mathematics. In English, students develop reading comprehension, make inferences and learn to write clearly to express ideas, opinions and responses to texts. In Mathematics, students strengthen key skills such as fractions, problem solving and early algebraic thinking.

Students are supported to organise their work, manage their time effectively, take responsibility for homework and longer tasks, and use feedback to improve and set personal goals. They are also guided to build confidence when facing new challenges, develop a positive attitude to learning and manage change alongside increasing responsibility.

Targeted support ensures that any gaps in learning are addressed, enabling students to move forward with confidence and be well prepared for Secondary School.
